Second trailer theft from same site in two months

Merrit, British Columbia Canada police are looking for suspects after $11,000 worth of tools and a trailer were stolen from the Best Western hotel— currently under construction — in the small, interior town.

The theft occurred at about 7:45 p.m. on April 1 and was captured on surveillance video at the work site. A white pickup truck was captured on video backing up and towing the utility trailer away. The trailer alone is valued at $6,000.

“It’s a big loss for them. It’s $6,000 for the trailer itself and about $11,000 worth of equipment that was in the trailer,” said police Const. Tracy Dunsmore.

It was the second time in about two months that the hotel construction site has been a target for thieves. On February 5, 2017 two male suspects broke into the hotel and took approximately $5,000 worth of copper wire, copper pipe and other tools.
